Terrestrial Ecotoxicology Studies for Agrochemicals

Terrestrial Ecotoxicology Studies for Agrochemicals

Crop protection products can affect the terrestrial environment in complex ways, making the assessment of terrestrial ecotoxicity challenging due to the diversity of terrestrial organisms, including plants, invertebrates and vertebrates, and because they live both in and on the soil. Therefore, effective agrochemical terrestrial ecotoxicology studies require an understanding of the connectivity of ecosystem. Regulatory agencies around the world requires terrestrial ecotoxicology endpoints to demonstrate the potential hazards posed by your crop protection products. BOC Science can offer the services of terrestrial ecotoxicology studies to meet regulatory endpoints and requirements.

Agrochemicals Terrestrial Ecotoxicology Testing

We offer comprehensive terrestrial ecotoxicology studies including:

Terrestrial ecotoxicology endpoint studies

Our team provides robust and reliable data on the impact of your crop protection products on plants, soil-based microorganisms and invertebrates such as earthworms, and non-target arthropods, especially pollinators such as honeybees. We generate and compile a dossier of evidence, conducted according to international standards and suited for submission to each specific regulatory.

High-quality terrestrial ecotoxicology data

Combined with extensive ecotoxicology expertise, we are able to build a solution focused on your crop protection products. We design agrochemical terrestrial ecotoxicology studies that are conducted in accordance with recognized international standards and are consistent with your specific regulatory requirements.

Full suite of terrestrial ecotoxicology assessment

BOC Science has extensive experience in conducting agrochemical terrestrial ecotoxicology studies in accordance with international testing guidelines. In addition to standard laboratory studies, we can use our extensive experience to design non-standard, custom and higher level studies, including semi-field/field studies, to meet specific regulatory needs.

BOC Science Standard Ecotoxicology Studies

Our expert team is able to provide testing services on terrestrial organisms which are GLP compliant:

Avian Ecotoxicology Studies

Avian toxicity studies are a standard requirement for plant protection products where wild birds may be exposed to the active substance or the product itself such as: drinking water, over-sprayed food items, residues in fish and earthworms (bioaccumulation), or by ingestion of coated seeds, granules, or slug-bait pellets.

  • OECD 223: Avian Acute Oral Toxicity
  • OECD 205/OCSPP 850.2200: Dietary Toxicity Test
  • OPPTS 885.4050: Microbial Pesticide Test Guidelines-Avian Oral, Tier I
  • OPPTS 885,4100: Microbial Pesticide Test Guidelines-Avian Inhalation Test, Tier I

Pollinator Studies

Frequent exposure of plants and soils to insecticide and fungicide treatments can alter microbial function in the soil and alter the availability of floral resources for foraging bees. In the context of the authorization of plant protection products, it must therefore be verified that they pose no unacceptable risks to bees and other pollinators. We have implemented a wide range of agrochemicals pollinator studies as part of our expanding portfolio, for both contact and oral exposure. Commonly, these tests are combined into a single GLP study.

Soil Organisms Studies

Our scientists have extensive experience in various soil assays, such as the Earthworm acute and reproduction toxicity assays and the Collembola reproduction assay. We are capable of conducting agrochemicals open-field studies of a diversity of soil organisms.

Non-target Arthropods (NTA) Studies

It is important to examine whether and to what extent plant protection agents will affect non-target arthropods prior to the approval of agrochemical products.

Non-target Plants (NTP) Studies

In general, non-target plants are often exposed to spray-drift or following applications to various crops, or in accidental exposure scenarios. We can provide a series of testing on a range of non-target plants covering multiple taxonomic diverse species for seedling emergence and/or vegetative vigor.
